Glycerine
Glycerin is magical. It is a humectant and literally pulls moisture out of the air and attracts it to your skin.
For example, if you left a bottle of pure glycerine exposed to air in your house, it would soon become 80 percent
glycerine and 20 percent water. Hence, glycerine helps retain the moisture in your skin... and fights dryness,
itchiness, soreness and cracked skin. Another thing you might want to know: Expensive, handcrafted soaps are loaded
with glycerine, which makes them a lot more moisturizing than commercial soaps.
Cocoa Butter
Cocoa Butter is a natural moisturizer. It is a thick emollient that seals and helps lock in natural moisture.
Cocoa Butter has been used for centuries to soothe abrasions, stretch marks, irritated or dry skin.
A side note, but an interesting one: Exotic dancers have been known to cover their entire bodies in Cocoa
Butter to retain their youth and beauty. It keeps their skin looking young and healthy.
Shea Butter
Shea Butter is found in the tropics of Africa, where it has been traditionally crafted for centuries. The name Shea comes from Si', the trees name in the Language of Mali. Shea Butter is a superb moisturizer - it contains several natural moisturizers - and has legendary healing powers.
Shea Butter, like Glycerine is also a humectant, so it attracts a good supply of moisture to your skin. The result, your skin stays softer longer and hydrated longer. And Shea Butter doesn't just work on the surface; it penetrates deep to the lower layers of your skin to improve elasticity and help turn dry, lackluster skin into healthy glowing skin.
Coconut Oil
In the Philippines, Coconut Oil is revered and called "The Tree of Life". And some doctors have even hailed it as the healthiest oil on Earth. But one thing you can be sure of… it is a fantastic moisturizing ingredient. When applied to your skin it forms a silken barrier to retain moisture, which fights off roughness, dryness and future dryness.
Coconut oil has a small molecular structure so it absorbs easily giving your skin an incredibly smooth feel. But it doesn't stop there. It also reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles. But the proof is in the pudding. For hundreds of years, Filipinos have been making and using Coconut Oil as a moisturizer for their skin and lips…and it is a well-known fact that they have soft, smooth, wrinkle-free skin even though they are exposed to the rays of the sun every day of the year. (Florida and California are you listening?!)
Olive Oil
Olive oil is also an emollient and acts in a similar way to Cocoa Butter. Olive oil leaves a fine film of oil on your
skin that traps moisture, which helps keeps your skin soft, flexible and prevents cracking.
Propylene Glycol
Propylene Glycol is a moisture-carrying vehicle and helps moisturizers penetrate the skin quickly and easily.
The result, is fast absorption and a non-greasy feel.
Mineral Oil
Mineral Oil separates fine particles from coarse particles by suspending them in liquid. This gives ointments and
creams, like Pharmacy Formula, a smooth, satiny, and polished feel.
Stearic Acid
Stearic acid is a thickening agent and a stabilizer of oil in water preparations and, just as important,
it is another ingredient that helps retain the moisture content in your skin and helps keep it soft and supple, and free from dryness.
